Since 2011, Allison Haley Luffman has worked as regional manager for Showplace Design Center in Nashville, Tennessee. A charitable individual, Allison Haley Luffman supports numerous philanthropic endeavors, one of which includes the March of Dimes.
Originally founded in 1938 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, the March of Dimes has evolved over the years to promote general health for pregnant women and babies. In 2003, the organization began its Prematurity Campaign in response to the steady rise in premature birth. The campaign, scheduled to end in 2020, uses scientific and clinical research as well as public policy to assist with the 15 million premature worldwide births that occur annually. More than 10,000 premature births occur In Tennessee alone.
To help raise money for the organization, each chapter hosts particular fundraising events. One event, which took place on November 26, 2015, was a race that benefitted the Tennessee chapter. The Memphis Turkey Trot 4 Miler and Turkey Leg Relay was held at the Memphis Botanic Garden, and more than 3,500 runners participated. For those who did not want to run the full four miles, they could have joined with a partner with one runner taking the first two miles and the other running the second two. The male winner for this 11th annual event was Joseph Chebet with a time of 20:39.6 while the female winner was Teghan Henderson at 24:08.7.
